Gulkhanim Mammadova visits Britain for John Smith Trust Fellowship
Research Fellow of Topchubashov Center, Gulkhanim Mammadova participated in the residential phase of the John Smith Trust Fellowship between 1-13 March. The program was attended by 11 people from Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia. During the residency, participants engaged with various organizations across St. Andrews, Edinburgh and London, including visits to the Parliaments of Scotland and UK. Each participant met with a number of organizations to to gain insights from the UK experience and receive recommendations for their projects. For instance, Gulkhanim had the opportunity to meet with several organisations such as PeaceRef, Beyond Borders, and Conciliation Resources, as well as individuals actively involved in the field of peacebuilding and women’s empowerment.
John Smith Trust Fellowship aims to empower emerging leaders from Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia and focuses on fostering democratic governance, social justice, and rule of law within the region. Participants engage in a comprehensive program, including mentorship, networking opportunities, and skill-building sessions, aimed at enhancing their abilities to drive positive change in their home countries.
