The South Caucasus was among the priorities for the Ottoman foreign policy; therefore, Turkey's recent activities regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should not be surprising. The 10 November statement that ended the Second Karabakh War reaffirmed Turkish political involvement and mediation in the region. 

In the new reality, Russia and Turkey will emerge as observers and mediators to replace the Minsk Group trio (France, Russia and the United States).

Although the military phase was over with the 10 November deal, the final resolution of the conflict seems far. Turkey's participation as Azerbaijan`s guarantor in the future of the conflict and in the possible next military phases has been one of the key achievements of Azerbaijan in the recent processes. The Azerbaijani authorities would undoubtedly be pleased to increase cooperation with Turkey in all spheres, including Nagorno-Karabakh. The near future may possibly witness closer military cooperation and even some integration of the Azerbaijani and Turkish armies.
